Goodbye Ruby Tuesday...

Who could hang a name on you ?...

You know, in my haste and anger over the outcome of the Stupid Bowl, pardon me, Super Bowl( I don't know why I have such an issue with remembering that)...I totally forgot to give my two cents about the performance of the World's Greatest Rock 'N' Roll Band, The Rolling Stones !! Frankly, I thought they kicked some ass... I thought for a 12 minute set in the middle of a football field at halftime of a shitty football game(sorry), they sounded pretty damn good...Now, the song selection is something else altogether..,.Do they really NEED to keep playing Start Me Up and (Can't Get No) Satisfaction ? I mean, Satisfaction is a great fucking song, but do I need to hear it anymore ? And Start Me Up was NEVER a great song, and it just keeps getting worse as it gets forced down my throat... I actually thought"Rough Justice" was better than Start Me Up( I happen to dig the new record- I listened to it again last night), but couldn't they throw a curve or two ? I mean, they don't have to go radical and play "Sway" or "Moonlight Mile" or "Shine A Light", but couldn't they throw out a "Tumbling Dice" or "Miss You" or "Ruby Tuesday" or "Wild Horses" or something ? I mean, when they were on the Simpsons, they used "Rip This Joint" for the yardwork scene(which was probably the Simpsons producers' choice, but couldn't old Mick and Keith have been inspired by it ?) at the end...Gimme some of that, man...Give ME some Satisfaction...Or Get Of Off My Cloud !!

Yeah, I thought overall the Stones comported themselves well...I'm with you on the song selection (though "Start Me Up" has sentimental value FOR me, as the first Stones song I knew about. Blame MTV and being a child of the 80s). What I appreciated was the lack of medley--they just played what was essentially a short set, complete with "Hello, Detroit!"

You've already said it, but its worth a repeat: there are the folks who produce the Simpsons, and then there are the folks who produced the Super Bowl. What did you expect?

Yeah, I was a bit worried about a medley as well, and thankful we didn't see it...
