'Sup, dawgs ?
So, My Special Lady and I were chillin' at the crib last night(okay, that's the end of the lame attempt at hip language) and we were watching the Gilmore Girls(there maybe be plot spoilers ahead, so if you have not watched the episode yet, TURN BACK!!!), and it was getting near the end, and Rory Gilmore stood up to deliver a speech at the wedding reception of her dear friend Lane, and all of a sudden, the familiar honking whine of the Emergency Broadcast System came screeching out of the television...Thinking quickly, I grabbed my trusty remote and switched over to MUTE, to see if the closed captioning would kick in, and lo and behold, it DID !! HUZZAH !!! SHAZAM !!! Then, I rewound back to the beginning of the speech(God Bless You, TIVO), and we were able to enjoy the speech AND feel like we were reading and learning....It was win/win !! After we finished watching the episode(we only had to watch the closed captioning for a minute or two, by the time Lorelei made her drunken, self-pitying ramble, the sound was back), My Special Lady suggested that we go back and listen to the EBS announcement, just in case it was about a hurricane or something. We listened to it, and it was NOT a test of the EBS, it was the Tallahassee Emergency Weather Board(I'm sure it's affiliated with the EBS, they certainly utilize the same siren song) informing us that there was a severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 9:15 P.M. EDT, in a neighboring county, and it also reminded us that if we are..."Close enough to hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning."...Harrowing...But then something occurred to me, if we had been watching the show with the closed captioning on for the whole episode, we never would have had this information !! How fucked up is that ? Is the Tallahassee Emergency Weather Board( I think that's the name, it's something like that) essentially telling the hard of hearing to drop dead ? That doesn't seem right.

Did a crawl run across the bottom of the screen with info about the storm, or a weather icon or map appear in the corner?
Nope...Nothing of the sort...
Weird. I've started watching things on Closed Captioning because of the train whizzing by, and sometimes there's extra stuff on the CC that's not spoken. Email me for an extra from last night's Scrubs....
