Why I Hate The Office....

I don't really hate The Office...I just don't watch it.

Recently, I took it upon myself to share with my vast readership(cough) what Tee Vee shows I am currently watching.

My friend and doubles tennis partner Avitable noticed that The Office was not on the list, and he wanted to know why. He even suggested that I write a post about it. I will do him one better, and I will write a post about it. Huh ?

The first thing that I'm sure people assume is that I don't watch The Office because I am a snob and I liked the Ricky Gervais version, and therefore will not watch the new one. Not true. I am a snob, and I ADORE the Ricky Gervais version of The Office, but that is not why I don't watch the American version.

I honestly don't have a concrete reason why I don't watch it. Other than I watched the first couple of episodes, and I honestly did not find them funny.

I think Steve Carell is a genius. I think he's very funny. I just did not find the show funny. And honestly, I find the guy who plays Dwight to be unpleasant to look at. He makes me uneasy. But even that is not enough reason to not watch.

I just didn't like it. And then, I must admit, I got tired of hearing about it. I felt like it was being shoved down my throat. And I don't mean by people I know or anything, but just the whole marketing campaign and everything. Perhaps it was just my perception, I don't know.

I just had a conversation with a co-worker(how trippy, I had a conversation about the Office, IN AN OFFICE !! YIKES !!!) about the show, and I think that something else that kind of put me off was the thought of an extended "will they ? won't they ?" dating thing with Pam and the other guy. That's the sort of thing that made me stop watching Friends. It is the very rare sitcom that can pull off that sort of thing.

Now, I just don't watch it because I don't watch it. I think. I watch so much damned Tee Vee, I don't know that I need to watch anything else.

That's my thinking on the subject so far. Does any of that make sense ?

So, I guess the question now, dear readers, is...Do YOU watch The Office ? Why or why not ? Comments, please.

Nope, never watched it. I'm more of a CSI/House/Bones kinda gal. When I leave work, I don't want to go home and watch TV all about work (or at least work that's even remotely similar to mine). Since I'm not likely to come across a major medical mystery or a dead body while answering the phones at the most boring company on the planet, I'm pretty safe with CSI.

Okay, that explains. The first season sucked. SUUUUCCCKKKKED.

Go rent the second season and give it a shot. It's so vastly improved, it's pretty much a different show.

The will they/won't they is over very quickly, too.

I felt the same way, but, unlike you, I persevered! Because I'm awesome like that.

Willie and I watch it, and we are especially obsessed with the character Kevin, and his Police cover band, Scrantonicity.

I haven't owned or watched a television in 5 years. BUT I've seen every episode of the U.S. version of The Office on DVD (except for the current season). I'd never heard of it until I saw the box for the DVD at a video store, but I'm so glad I rented it that day.

It's hard to explain what I love so much about the show (obviously a career as a TV critic is not in my future), but I like how all the characters are unique, how they all have a different way of responding to Michael, and I find their facial expressions very amusing.

I almost bought a televsion because of this show.

Same deal with me, almost... I watched like 2 episodes from the first season and either they weren't great episodes or I just didn't get it.

Returned to it the next season and thought it was one of the funniest shows ever... okay, not even close to The Simpsons or Family Guy but not bad.

Why I don't spend time on hour-long dramas -- 'cause I wanna laugh, such great medicine, such great stress relief!
