Seen On The Back Of the Pickup Truck...Part Deux

So, it was last week that I wrote about this.

I asked for what people thought, and in a surprising turn of events, got very little response. Thanks Jefe, for at least having a thought on the subject.

I figure I can look at the lack of responses in a couple of ways
1. A general dislike of me and my opinions.
2. the fact that the subject in question was religion.
3. a mass malfunction of keyboards across the Earth.

My vote is mostly for number 1( that's my general lack of self-esteem shining through), but I'll share more of my opinions anyway.

In case you don't want to travel back to the original post, here is what I saw on the tailgate of a pickup truck:
I Can pray.
How about you ?
Think about it !!

And I asked what people thought about that, and the silence was deafening.

That's fine. But I think I'll share what it got me thinking.

I would like to preface by saying that I have no particular problem with religion in it's purest forms. I think that if a belief in a certain religion enriches someone's life without hurting someone else, I say more power to them. I just think that people need to keep their religion out of other people's lives, and by that, I mean trying to tell other people how to live their lives.

I was raised a Catholic, and to say that I have since lapsed is probably an understatement. I don't go to church anymore, but i do think that I keep the best of what I learned in my heart at all times.

I try to live my life as a decent person. Yes, I swear, and I lived in sin for what, 10 years before I got married ? But, I don't hurt people(at least not intentionally- or at least I try not to), and I do try to treat others as I would like to be treated. And that is something I think I learned as a Catholic, and from my parents. And from what I know of them, it is at the heart of a lot of other religious teachings as well.

Again, let me clarify. I am not trying to say I am superior to people who go to church on Sunday. If that is something that enriches their lives, good for them.

But let me get to what that tailgate made me think.

Arrogant.

You can pray ? So what ? Anyone can pray. It doesn't mean anything if you don't back it up with action. It's an empty gesture.I have known quite a few people in my life who think that no matter how they live their lives between Monday and Saturday, as long as they spend an hour in church on Sunday, everything is fine. I think that's bullshit. You can't screw people left and right all week, and judge them for their sexual orientation or their own beliefs and think that because you go to church on Sunday(or temple on Saturday), that you're a good(insert religious affiliation here).

Now, I am not accusing the person in the truck of any of that, mind you, but that it is what that sentiment made me think.

I suppose I need to find a rather large handbasket now.

I agree. Totally arrogant. I don't like it when people ASSUME that I am not praying or they pretend that they do not already know that I am Jesus Christ's freakin' BFF! It's those same people who can't accept it when God's answer to thier prayers are NO! They just think they should pray more, or that thier answer was 'no' because we didnt pray also. EFF those people. I pray when I want to. And I will pray for my own agenda, thanks very much, goddammit!

"We can share the women, we can share the wine" is the lyric that just came through the phones. how nicely irreverant~!

I didn't really have any thought on it one way or another. I consider 99% of the people out there to be morons, so that would just serve to cement my opinion.
