Complimentary, My Dear Watson...
I was watching the Thursday night/Friday morning edition of "Late Night With Conan O'Brien"- and a conversation he had with a guest got my mind whirring...this female guest(an actress on a program called "American Dreams", I believe) had been described as the "cat's meow" by a courting beau, in the course of their discussion, this fair maiden and Coney also brought up the descriptor the "bee's knees"- a wonderful phrase, I have always felt...but here is my new quandary- which one of these is more flattering ? Is it better to be the "cat's meow" or the "bee's knees" ? What do you think ?

Depends on the meow. If it is anything like Arlo's, it is definitely not a complement.
Unless you want to be "the thing that wakes up Toby and Loretta at 5 am in the morning"...and hell, maybe you DO...I'd say, go for "the bee's knees."
I'm with jen and loretta -- "bee's knees," sounds better to me . . . but maybe this has something to do with ollie waking up ryoji and me at 5:00 in the morning. what a coincidence!
che-che maintains that all cats -- all over the world, even the big cats -- wake up at 5:00 in the morning to stretch and scratch. I'm beginning to believe him.
