Sláinte Mhaith!!

Sláinte mhaith means "good health" and is a popular Irish toast, and I wish it to you on this St. Patrick's Day.

And I thought I'd share a poem as well(I cannot find who wrote it)...

The Mouse on the Barroom Floor
Some Guinness was spilled on the barroom floor
when the pub was shut for the night.
Out of his hole crept a wee brown mouse
and stood in the pale moonlight.
He lapped up the frothy brew from the floor,
then back on his haunches he sat.
And all night long you could hear him roar,
'Bring on the goddam cat!'

Well, she thought it was funny....

 Happy St. Patrick's Day, all!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

Sure and begorrah, it's St. Patrick's Day!! I thought I would start you off with my tried and true favorite Irish proverb:
"May those that love us, love us
Those that don't love us, may God turn their hearts
If He cannot turn their hearts, may he turn their ankles
So we will know them by their limping"

And I thought I'd share some videos with you as well.

Irish SodaBread: A Paticus Cooking Adventure...

Okay. Perhaps "Cooking Adventure" is a bit of an exaggeration. It was actually quite uneventful...Except for the ninjas. Did I neglect to tell you about the ninja attack ? Oh, snap, it was crizz-azay!
I went to the pantry to get some flour for the sodabread(which has baking soda in it, but no Coke or Sprite or nothing, in case you were wondering) and what did I happen upon but a group of ninjas, apparently dispatched to assassinate me! On a Sunday, I mean, c'mon, how about a day of damn rest, huh ?

Well, we commenced to fighting, and I'll tell you what, my enemies must have shopped at Donnie's Discount Ninjas, because these guys were nothing! I don't mean to brag, but you should not be able to put down a trained ninja with a wire whisk, you know what I mean ?

Well, I disposed of the bodies, and returned to the mundane task of baking the sodabread. I started mixing up my ingredients. Just as I was adding the buttermilk, I see the first scorpion come scuttling across the floor. I sigh and turn around to see an whole army of scorpions charging across the floor towards me. I know that this the work of one of my most industrious nemesises(nemesii ?) Baron von Vestinpustule.

Fortunately, I knew that buttermilk was toxic to scorpions, so I simply took the bottle and sprayed the little buggers. then I swept them up and went back to work on the sodabread.

I was able to get the ingredients mixed properly(or so I thought) and placed them in the greased skillet. It looked like this:

I placed it into the oven and relaxed for a bit. While I was trying to relax, I had a brief run in with a rather pedestrian cyborg(latex skin ? Really ? How very 1986.), and some mixed up an antidote for a poison that was delivered via blowdart by a young man driving past my house on a bicycle. Then, it was time to take out the sodabread!! Here is the finished product!

It looked tasty, smelled tasty, and even tasted tasty, but it had some continuity problems. It kinda fell apart. I don't know if it's because I did not dough hook it enough or if I dough hooked it too much, or if I didn't cook it long enough, but there was definitely something wrong with it. dang.

The corned beef, cabbage and taters were good though. As were the bottles of Harp.

Meet My Ties: Volume 4-The Pogue Mahone Edition !!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day !!! Jaysus, where's my Harp ? Turn up the Thin Lizzy. Sure and begorrah.

Meet My Ties is back, baby! Back with an Irish vengeance !! Erin Go Kiss My Ass, and all that.

And, for the first time here at Meet My Ties, you are meeting the tie that I am wearing today. How mind-blowing is that ?

That's right, it's St. Patrick's Day, so I'm wearing my shamrock tie, I've got a shillelagh in my trousers, and I'm half drunk already !!!

Here's a closer shot of the shamrock tie,

I don't really have a lot to add.

Here's a little something I wrote two years ago about Irish accents in the movies.

I will leave you, as I do every St. Patrick's Day, with my favorite Irish proverb(my second favorite being-"May you be in heaven a full half hour before the devil knows you're dead."-that one was on my bedside lamp when I was a wee lad)

"May those that love us, love us

For those that don't love us, may God turn their hearts

If he cannot turn their hearts, may he turn their ankles

So we will know them by their limping."

Happy St. Patrick's Day !!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Okay, so it's two days late, but hey. Forces were aligned against me this weekend.

Hell, I even missed seeing my Boilermakers give the current NCAA Champion Florida Gators all they could handle in the NCAA Tournament(March Craziness, I think it's called. Or perhaps, March Dementia ?..Or Spring Anxiety ? I don't know, it involves some sort of mental disorder.)

I DID, however, attend a birthday party for a one year old, but this mean kid took my lollipop, and called me a fat doo-doo head,so I went home early...But I did get a balloon, and some Winnie The Pooh cake.

I also went to a mandatory dinner and paid 5 bucks for a Michelob light, and 35 bucks for a steak that was still moving.

Did I mention that Kobe Bryant elbowed me in the face ?

And I spent much of my time on Saturday turning this:

Into THIS:

Mmmm....boiled meat. Man, that was good, if I may toot my own culinary horn for a moment. And the potatoes were good. And the ice cold HARP was veeeeery good. The company was even better.

The corned beef was a gift from my friend J. Thank you, J. You wanna know how kickass she is ? She's a vegetarian, and she bought us a 6 pound corned beef. That, my friends, is KICKASS.

It was good. And I had it again for lunch yesterday, and I will have it for lunch again today. I'm getting hungry thinking about it.

I will leave you with my favorite two Irish proverbs, both of which I have probably printed here before, but Erin Go What The Hellfuck, right ?

The first is: May you be in Heaven for a full half hour before the Devil knows your dead.(That one was on a lamp next to my bed when i was a kid.)

The second is: May those that love us, love us. Those that don't love us, May God turn their hearts. If God cannot turn their hearts, may he turn their ankles, so we will know them by their limping.

Happy St. Pat's, Crimestoppers !!
